Otakar Libal: Reconstruction of The Claviculae Salomonis

Yes, another reconstruction from the well known Claviculae Salomonis and another dive into kabbalistic magic.

In the description of the pentacle it says:

The sixth pentacle of Mars. – It hath so great virtue that being armed therewith, if thou art attacked by any one, thou shalt neither be injured nor wounded when thou fightest with him, and his own weapons shall turn against him.

Concerning the pentacle of S. L. Mathers in Clavicula Salomoni, J. H. Peterson writes the following note on his website:

Editor’s Note.– Around the eight points of the radii of the pentacle are the words ‚Elohim qeber, Elohim hath covered (or protected),‘ written in the secret alphabet of Malachim, or the writing of the angels. The versicle is from Psalm xxxvii. 15:— ‚Their sword shall enter into their own heart, and their bow shall be broken.‘-SLM

This is the ninth pentacle in Ad. 10862, and numbers 7 and 33 in W. The verse in Latin reads „gladius eorum intret in corda ipsorum et arcus ipsorum confringatur.“ -JHP

In Vulgata it is: „Gladius eorum ingrediatur in cor eorum et arcus eorum confringantur“

If I look up in the hebrew dictionary, Qeber (kever) means grave or tomb, which doesn't fit the protective pantacle. Elohim Qabar (kavar) is not God will protect, but God will bury.

So I look to Zecorbeni who got the Fifth Pentacle of Sun 75% correct, which is more than the others had.

And you can see the difference at first glance - in the inner circle there is Hebrew around the center:

In Aub24, Kuff in the word qeber is mangled in both Malachim and Hebrew. It occurs to me that it might be more like Elohim Gibor.

Matters was probably based on the mangled pentacle. Otherwise, he would certainly recognize Elohim Gibor. So I wrote to J.H. Peterson, to whom I owe a great deal of thanks, because he responded to my request and sent the pentacle materials within a few hours. Or rather, he sent three versions of it. Right away in the request I said I would share what I had come up with, but after a while Peterson himself wrote that it was probably Elohim Gibor.

Of the pentacles sent, I can unfortunately publish two, as the third is non-public from the Venice Archives and it is in a book that was seized in the witch trials against Francesco Viola and Leonardo Long in 1636.
